What is Health Psychology?

Health Psychology is a branch of Clinical Psychology that focuses on how the body, mind, and social factors influence our health. Health psychologists help people improve their physical and mental health by motivating patients to improve their health habits, preventing, adjusting, or coping with disease and illness, and by addressing the emotional and social implications that impact our health.

What does health-focused psychotherapy look like?

Psychotherapy can take on many forms depending on what the primary goals are. It may look a lot like traditional therapy with a bit more focus on managing symptoms related to health issues. Health-focused psychotherapy will include a set of specific goals and interventions that aim at reducing the negative impact of health difficulties. We may be doing a structured treatment protocol or simply having a conversation about your physical and emotional difficulties that will lead to lifestyle changes that will reduce symptoms and improve the quality of your life.
